Lionhead Community

Two weeks ago Peter gave a speech at BAFTA in London about video games (duh!). He talked about the history, his career in the industry, what's to come and what can be expected from Lionhead Studios and our games.

I know many articles have been written about this talk and the following doesn't offer anything new but it's the same talk with a lot of pictures. And another reason I'm putting it on our blog is because they sent us a nice email asking us to.

So big it up for SuperHappyFunTimeShow - http://shfts.com/?p=1422 !

MParker started a poll on our forums asking 'Who is your favourite Hero in Fable II?'. Currently the turnout is a bit low but if you want to let your opinion heard, vote here!

Milo wins 'Best Technology of E3 2009' award from Eurogamer and "WOW" Moment award from Gamefocus.

"The clamour to call Milo a fake when no-one ever claimed he was real - Molyneux himself admitting to “tricks” - proves just how hair-raising, how unsettling Microsoft and Lionhead’s achievement is. It has the smell of witchcraft about it." Eurogamer wrote.

The article goes on; “Milo was the hands-down sensation of E3, but that's not the only reason it takes the Best Technology award. It was the synthesis of Lionhead's AI experiments with Microsoft's technically amazing and surprisingly functional Project Natal hands-free interface to create something genuinely new - not just a demo resembling a flavour-of-the-mass-market Wii game - that attracted our attention, not to mention Steven Spielberg's. Usually the conservative follower of trends, it was Microsoft who took the boldest step into the future this E3.”

Gamefocus said the following about their “WOW” Moment - Project Natal – Milo "Some people say its fake, others think its scary. Either way, this jaw-dropping project from Lionhead’s Peter Molyneux raised the skepticism bar up a notch. Not that we don’t believe Mr. Molyneux and his claims. Nonetheless, it made us ask ourselves what if it was true. There’s no doubt that if this project works, we could assist at the next evolution of role playing games...and even more."

In about 5 minutes the Microsoft E3 Press Conference will be well under way!  There have been promises of big announcements and presentation over the last couple of days/weeks and even I can't wait what it's all going to be.

Also this year there is no need for live chat-feeds, long delays of information or the wait for news snippets here and there. Today you can follow the Microsoft E3 2009 Press Conference live on Xbox.com!

We've found a couple of websites hosting a live feed and listed them here. In case you find another one, feel free to post the url(s) in the comments below.

    Happy viewing!

For all of you who use Twitter and would like to follow Lionhead's development and what Peter Molyneux is up to; follow LionheadStudios and pmolyneux.

From time to time we like to call on this Community to spread the word about our beloved Lionhead. Preferably in a positive way! Like the time we collectively voted to make Peter Molyneux the sexiest designer in games. Remember that?

Anyway, this time Lionhead Studios is game in The Escapist's 2009 March Mayhem, which is a tournament for video games developers. And after winning a BAFTA with Fable II I'm pretty confident we're going to score very well. It'll also show once again that the Lionhead Community is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to public online competitions!  This - is - Lionheeaaddd! </spartanvoice>

In the first round, out of five, we are up against our fellow devs at Red Fly Studios and we're hoping for your vote in this round as well as in the upcoming ones to take Lionhead to that number one spot!  You can find more about the competition here and once you've registered with The Escapist, go here to vote.

I'll be sure to post a reminder for the second round, as it'll be very likely we're going to be up against Capcom.

Lionhead are hiring! With the recent economic downturn this is a unique opportunity but also one that comes with great responsibility. You can find all job openings on our Jobs page.

Lionhead Studios uses Amiqus Games (a division of the Alexander Mann Group) as its master recruitment vendor. Amiqus are a leading recruiter in the games industry and manage a small group of preferred suppliers on Lionhead Studio's behalf.

If you need any further information on how to apply please do not hesitate to get in touch ASAP.

Over on BBC24 you can find a short item about game development and animation. "The computer games industry in southern England, which is booming despite the downturn, has warned that home grown talent is being lured abroad."

There is also a short appearance (click link) from Lionhead Studios, plus some desks and monitors you might recognize from the Video Diaries...

After three years – 2005 to 2008 - almost two million visitors and over a years worth of unique movies posted (that’s 33025270 seconds), Lionhead Studios feels it’s time for the final curtain to come down on The Movies: Online. The site was ahead of its time, with user-created-content being the main part of the site. We'd like to thank our community, fans and everyone who helped making The Movies: Online not only a success but also a great place to be! We've set up a page about the History of TMO, you can find it here.

So long and thanks for all the fish, no more 1-star Ninjas!

It's the end of the week so it's a great time for some more Fan-Art!

As we've mentioned in our Lionhead News a couple of weeks ago - http://www.lionhead.com/?newsid=35 - everyone had the opportunity to ask Peter Molyneux a question. You can find his answer to the first ten question on GameDaily: http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/features/10-questions-lionheads-peter-mol....

"Peter once again answers your questions. He estimates Fable II could have up to 100 hours of gameplay, he likes the idea of PvP (perhaps as DLC?), and he hasn't ruled out creating another Black & White. Much more within..."

After a few weeks of silence, some more Fan Art!

We've got the builders in on lionhead.com, he he he... Stay tuned, they should be gone in a couple of hours!

That's what my week has been like so far, an eight day week! Not just for me, plenty of other developers doing it around here. The G o o d [Good] news? One of the big things I've been working on the past two months is nearly done, we're talking days now. The final export (but not the final-final) is now happening, I'm going home in about ten minutes but if you've been watching the webcams you'll know it's all been video, video and video around here. He he he.... Smily [:)] What day are we?

Oh and yes, my previous entry was a Velvet Underground reference.

Brings the dawn in! But that's something for tomorrow; today we've got a very sunny Saturday in Guildford with a nearly full office with developers. Fable 2 is getting a lot of love and attention... Big Smile [:D]

This is the most important and at the same time the most interesting community call we’ve had in a long time! We’re looking for someone special and talented!

So we’re looking for someone local with G o o d [Good] machinima experience. Have you recorded G o o d [Good] quality game footage in the past, have a knowledge of  basic camera movements and an eye for detail?  Would you like come in and sit with our video team to record game footage?
If you are that person and you’d like to apply for this temp. job we’d like to hear from you!  Send your ‘machinima CV’ to webmaster@lionhead.com with the best examples of what you’ve worked, the tools and applications you’ve worked with.
