Up [] Introduce yourself to the community here

Hello and welcome to the Lionhead boards. This thread is a place where you can introduce yourself to the community. Tell us a bit about yourselves. Who are you? Where are you? What got you onto this site? How long have you had their games (if you do)? Who was the first person who made you feel welcome? My name is Roger, I live in Eastbourne, England. With my wife Alex and our dog Tuc. I am a full time carer for Alex, who is disabled. We are very much in love with each other. (Awww!) I saw the movies in a game store and decided to check it out online, this was middle of November. I watched a lot of movies over the next three weeks and then bought the game 7th December. Since then I have got Black and White, and Fable, which I really love. When I first came to the forums, Glynner was the guy who inspired me and helped me. Prinzess was next, shortly followed by chocolatemouse. A message for older members: This is the thread that used to be known as; An Attempt To Build Community Spirit. The name has changed, because the needs of the community have changed. It has now been moved from TMO to OT as the communities needs have changed once again. We are always getting new members and I feel we should all make them feel welcome. To all: This thread was a big community group hug as well as a place to introduce ourselves. All hugs here are platonic, nothing inappropriate is allowed here, and definitely no gay jokes. So I shall start us off once again.
    HUG

Yeah, that's right. I gave him a hug. You know why? Cause I'm trying to spread the love. Come on everyone. Be a man (or woman) and join in on the group hug. Silly [:p] P.S. In all seriousness, there are a number of people here on TMO that I like spending time talking, discussing, or joking with. You guys are great. Seriously. There's way too many to name, but you all know who you are. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is...I love you guys! *Gets a bit teary eyed and tries to casually wipe his eyes...erm...eye without anyone noticing.*

I attempted to hug you, but with 8 eyes, I have a problem with depth perception. I think I was hugging a telephone pole.

Re: Introduce yourself to the community here

Hugging is all well and good but this is a TM forum so we should really try and stay on topic. Would you guys prefer to continue to post in this thread here (but add something more to your posts such as a bit about yourself, how long you've been here and what you like best about the TM community or something) or should I move it to OT and allow the hugfest to continue? See if it's just lots of hugs in this forum it might be considered spam... up to you Happy [:)]

I agree. Personally, I like the idea of getting to know each other from the TMO community, so I vote for it to stay here. Naturally, if it gets too off-topic feel free to move it (or lock it). Happy [:)] To everyone else: Let us get to know you a little bit! Tell us a few things about yourself. For example:

How long have you been part of TMO?
What do you like best about the community?
Which member(s) really made you feel welcome when you arrived here?
Etc.
So after you give us your heartwarming hug, just be sure to tell us something interesting about yourself that pertains to TMO se we can keep this in The Movies forum. Happy [:)]

I think Fluke needs a hug. Happy [:)] Alright, alright. Hmmmm, a little about myself. Well, I'm a 31 year old Air Force guy. I have a beautiful wife and 2 rotten, but cute daughters. I'm currently in a hotel in Virginia and am happy that they moved me to a smoking room. I've been here since sometime in November. Something I like about the TM community: Fluke. LOL, just kidding. I really like that a lot of people here are out to help each other and aren't in this solely for themselves. I love helping out the noobs. As I've taken a month off from uploading movies, I've gotten to know a lot of the folks on TMO and have learned a lot about making movies. Fluke you are still my hero. Happy [:)]

Re: Introduce yourself to the community here

Good [Good] posts, I'll leave the thread here then Happy [:)] Myself, I haven't uploaded any of the movies I've made with TMO - apart from wanting to keep them for myself I really don't think they are good enough. I don't have much time to work on masterpieces. I spend most of my time on the forum locking threads (hehe well maybe not but it seems like a lot). I've been a member of the forum for a number of years now so know a wide range of people here. I don't think I'll ever get to know as many people as I'd like to that well because I have a million and one things to do at any point in time. My current obsession is a new digital SLR. I'm after one, though I can't really afford it. I wouldn't consider myself an incredibly active member of The Movies forums because I don't post many threads on the TM boards. I do however read a *lot* of posts here (and elsewhere on the forums). I reckon I must read a fair amount every day. A lot of the time I don't always reply though because as a mod I prefer to remain impartial so I don't openly give my opinion on everything. There are a few people I see over and over making good posts on these boards but I won't mention any names because I don't have favourites Happy [:)]

Re: Introduce yourself to the community here

I'd much rather see it stay here. Nothing against the off-topic people, but they get all our good 'shoot-the-breeze' threads Happy [:)] The majority of those in this area, where we see the most of each other, don't venture into the Off-Topic forums, so since it's an attempt to build community spirit, it'd fail. Um ozman, do you mean to say you've been in the hotel since November, or just here? Happy [:)] I've also been around the forums since November, though lurked for a while here, but also back on the Fable boards when it was hosted at BBB. Only lurked, though. In real life, I'm 26, married, and live in Sydney, Australia. It's probably obvious, but I'm also male. I love the game because movie making is something I always wanted to do, but never (when younger) had the resources to do it when I had the time, and now that I can afford the resources, I don't have the time I used to. I've been interested in this sort of stuff since I had my first computer as a pre-teen, with the fantastic program 'Fantavision'. Later, I moved onto Deluxe Paint Animation, where I wasted lots of my youth. Even used to write out storyboards, though the ideas were usually too complex for my meagre drawing talents Happy [:)] The thing I like about the community, is I can slap lots of different things together, and get feedback. Sure, none of my films have been truly mindblowing to the extent of the larger films here, though I feel quite comfortable in my niche, with films good for those after something different. That ability to be different has always been somewhat special to me Happy [:)]

Even a page a day will get you there.

I am about to go off to bed, but before I go I am going to try to build some community spirit. There are a lot of you who are my friends here on TMO, there are many of you that I like. There are even more of you that I respect and would like to get to know better. So I propose we have a big group hug, so anyone who wants to make new friends, feel free to join in. I'll start the ball rolling. <<>>
    * Blackstorm is running away, screaming, want is mommy cause the big bad stranger wanna hug him!! * LOL Seriously,i like this community,a lot of good people here, and like you said rjb2112,i also respect a lot of you' all! woot Regards, Blackstorm

LOL, after I posted that, I thought the same thing. Nope, only since Sunday, but I'll be stuck in hotels until the end of March. Ugh. But at least I should have plenty of time to make more movies and do my stupid songs and voice overs in private. Happy [:)] As for who made me feel welcome, I can't really name one person. There are a lot of great helpful people here. I think I'm going to cry. Anyone have eight tissues?

I've been coming here pretty much every single day since Christmas. I've only uploaded a couple movies, watched and reviewed quite a few more, and I spend alot of time reading the boards. What I see the majority of here is inspiration, encouragement, and a general feeling of goodwill---which is why I come back Happy [:)] It seems that there are too many members who sort of opened up to me all at once--I can't name just one. The first couple of weeks I was Mr. Anonymous, and I don't really remember the transition. One of those things, I guess. Happy [:)] I've been a member of other boards, but nothing like this one. This place really is a community--despite a few annoyances and a lot of little quirks, this is my home away from home!

Re: Introduce yourself to the community here

Hugs, handshakes and kisses to all. How long have you been part of TMO? - I've been a part of TMO since it launched. I've been a part of the TM community since....about a month or two...or three before the game release. I was lurking about the community and the site a bit before that. What do you like best about the community? - I like that many of the community's members continue to push the creativity threshold whether through mods, re-textures, music, new methods of filming, etc...etc. These people continue to be an inspiration to the rest of us and provide us with the tools to indulge our own creativity. Which member(s) really made you feel welcome when you arrived here? - I don't recall any one member making me feel especially welcome. I kinda slipped in the back door unnoticed. Wink [;)]. I am a bit of a movie freak, but I'm not the kind of movie freak that watches any and everything and knows a billion little facts about any movie you could throw at me. I just like to watch movies plain and simple and I watch them as often as possible. I am a writer at heart and have been doing so since I could put a coherent sentence together. Naturally, I've always pictured how the stories I write would look on screen and imagined what music would accompany certain scenes. Along with having a natural aptitude for writing, I have SOME formal training as well. Speaking of music, I am also a movie score fanatic. It began with John Williams' Star Wars Score (Yes, some of us remember seeing the original movies in the theatre......the first time they were released.) Don't get me wrong, I am firmly grounded in reality on a day to day basis, but I have an imagination I love to indulge as often as possible. There is something about a good movie score that I love. Because they are usually written to enhance the atmosphere and emotion the director is trying to bring out on screen, they seem so much more potent than your everyday music you hear on the radio or on MTV or whatever. A good movie score composer can either make you feel like crying or like a bad ass simply by changing one note in a chord. The movie score composer is many times under-rated. They are 75% of why a movie makes you feel the way you feel when you watch it. Yes, I do write a little music myself, but being that I do not have any quality equiptment at the moment, that hobby of mine has been put somewhat on hold. (I do have 3 pieces that were arranged and produced by professionals for use on a CD).....but I'm rambling now. Anyway, I am excited about what can be done and what we will be able to do with the Movies in the future and I am glad to be around some truly creative, hardcore movie fans.

(Hugs for everyone, and also Fluke, who is doing his job, but needs one too!) I finally unlocked all the "unlockables" on the game today, with 5 "years" to spare. I was rather proud of this! My thanks to whomever it was that pointed out that there were more sets to be unlocked! p.s. ...CzarTim made me feel welcome when I first got here a few months before release of the program (though I haven't seen him since the release).
