Poll: For Fable 2 was E3 a flop, hit or so-so?
Sorry but over all I have to say it was a big flop, even though the new trailer is cool the big secret flop over shadowed it. I’m not saying Fable 2 is a flop just that as far as PR goes E3 was a flop for Fable 2.
For a game aimed at casual gamers having a big reveal that only appeal to the small market of hard core gamers that are into online co-op and have an existing friends list, was short sighted. And even though it’s easy enough for casual players, casual players rarely do online co-op and extremely rarely already have a gaming friends list.
(I have a feeling that orb co-op was not what PM had planned to be the big secret and LH ran out of time or had design problems with the real one, and i would agree coming out with orb is better PR then saying a feature was cut or held to be used as Fable 3)
The Iain & Josh demo was something that only twitch hard core gamers would find great. I’m sorry but killing 40+ MOBs in a few minutes with twitch game play, does not show off fable properly, and is something only hard core twitch gamers would enjoy. (in the demo combat is comeing accross as if I'll feel rushed, I did not get that feeling in combat demos PM did some time ago. So please slow combat speed back down, or even better put in a combat speed slider bar in options)
On the positive side there is the trailer, the opening scenes are fantastic and so is the narration. They really show off the fairy tale feel of fable that casual players would go crazy for, but just when casual fans would be going wow it goes to combat, combat, combat, combat, combat, and more combat. There are other cool smaller things we seen in fable at E3, the crime system, the emotes mini game, the faces in the clouds coming up from fallen dead is cool, (but may if they all did not face your viewpoint it would be a better?), the look of the NPCs, and etc.
The big winner to me for the offline casual gamerd and gore loving gamers was Fallout 3, and for online casual players the winner is “The Academy” a MMO that also an online solo game. What is your opinion about Fable 2 at E3?E3 has come and gone again, Fable 2 had a big presence at the event. The biggest news coming out of Lionhead regarding Fable 2 was the feature Ambient Orbs which means you will have drop in / drop out online co-op play (the entire story). There was also a brand new trailer showing a lot of ingame footage, including magic spells.
Then there was a lot of hands on coverage from gaming sites and blogs, a bunch of screenshots and art plus a handful of new features being announced from coverage at E3 and the Fable 2 party that took place. Lionhead showed three different levels (combat, sandbox and childhood).
The pubgames were also on display and playable.
It exceeded my expectations and / or made me (more) interested in this game! (31.4%) It was awesome, everything I expected. (28.1%) It was good but I wanted something more. (33.8%) Dissapointing, I wanted a lot more. (4.3%) Other (specify in your post) (2.4%)

Re: Poll: For Fable 2 was E3 a flop, hit or so-so?
Well, the reason we were all unimpressed with the Albion Orbs was probably because we over-hyped it. We knew it could be anything, maybe not even something over-the-top, but just something he couldn't talk about at that moment, yet we all expected it to be revolutionary, and mind-blowing, when that's not what PM said it would be.
Also, the combat demo for IGN was rushed because of the strict time limit. He had ~8 minutes to demonstrate everything, so he couldn't just go wandering about the world looking for large groups of enemies. He just had to show off what the game had right then and there.
I'd say E3 was so-so. There was just too much said that we all already knew. They just won't seem to explain new things anymore.

Re: Poll: For Fable 2 was E3 a flop, hit or so-so?
To be honest, I didn't expect much from E3 for Fable 2. Ever since Peter got grilled for not being true to his word with the first Fable, he has been rather tight-lipped about the major features. I don't blame him really.
Plus since LH has been rather "revealing" in the past about major features, I think that they are trying to shy away from doing that this time. E3 was so-so.
It is better to be silent and be thought a fool, instead of opening your mouth and proving it.

I agree with everything you said, I guess if I had expected nothing the orbs would be a what ever instead a disappointment. ![Disappointed [:isappoin]](/emoticons/disappointed.gif)
But I still think F2 was out shined by many others, and speaking of which Ooops, I meant Sony's "The Agency" instead of “The Academy”.
Edit:
P.S. I was referring to the 2nd secret combat demos PM did last year, he used melee only and in a town and was fighting bandits.

What about the Bowerstone demo...or the sandbox stuff?
The press get to play not just combat...but a choice of childhood, combat, sandbox.
What they wish to report is up to them. I'm sure you will see more videos in the coming days. There has already been a lot of stuff shown and talked about. Magic, ranged, expressions, jobs, dog, crime system, shops, property, economy, marriage, family, multiplayer and so on.
You've been spoilt for info!

Re: Poll: For Fable 2 was E3 a flop, hit or so-so?
Hit, absolutely. F2 is Fable alright... to the core. There are of course things that could use some work, but there always is and by this I mean the death mechanic and the ui graphics. While the general idea behind the death system is brilliant to me, it just doesn't work without that build up that you see in the movies... basically, it needs some close-ups, facial expressions, links to past or future events, etc. But that said, would that really work, I don't know. The other bit is the ui graphics, some of it seems kinda out of place and out of style and some seem to be a little... "cluttery". ![Tongue Tied [:S]](/emoticons/emotion-7.gif) Overall, I liked it. My vision of what the game is and could be changed quite a lot.
Feel the Blaze...!! It's really, principally, Big Blue Box's vision. I'm just there as the aggravating ******* that comes in and says, 'Well, wouldn't it be cooler if you did this or cooler if you did that?' ~PM

Re: Poll: For Fable 2 was E3 a flop, hit or so-so?
The dev team is putting a lot of hard work into Fable 2 and I thank them for that. Honestly, I liked E3. Sure there weren't many blow away features, but what about the smaller ones we hadn't seen before? The smithing mini-game was great, same with the extended expression one. Of course the press might be holding back a bunch of things too.

The smithing min-game was great. What was it? 100 gold for each sword, I think. I really love the fact the hero has a lot more to say. To run around town with a friend, will be a lot of fun, drinking, and flirting. I'm only sad, I can't play it now. ![Sad [:(]](/emoticons/emotion-6.gif) Wish it was released a little earlier after seeing all that.

Re: Poll: For Fable 2 was E3 a flop, hit or so-so?
Fable itself will be a hit that will give even the most highly anticiapted games a run for their money. The showing at E3 is more than so-so, but a tiny bit less than a hit IMO. Of course, that's not really their fault; E3 as a whole this year just seemed a little...meh, with Fable being the only thing I was really interested in and FFXIII being the only surprise (albeit one that makes me giddy). Still, knowing that I'll truly have the thing in my hands this October makes me SO happy! ....Unfortunately, school will be in session right around that time. Damn you, PM!!

Re: Poll: For Fable 2 was E3 a flop, hit or so-so?
Ok, here is what I think.
The Falbe II presentation was ok.
Fallout 3, when I hear about the game I get exited, but when I see it, well, my exitment goes away pretty fast.
The game of E3 for me is.....
Yes, you guest it, The Force Unleashed. Mainly because when I heard about it I was exited and when I saw it I was even more exited.

E3 didn't really answer some questions I had, but at least it's sometime in October confirmed. Force Unleashed looked amazing, didn't get to see Fallout 3 but I was kind've hoping for that game to be ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) as well.

Re: Poll: For Fable 2 was E3 a flop, hit or so-so?
I say overall it was a flop. The combat just looked like button mashing. Where are all the fancy high level moves? In some of the videos I saw PM cheated and leveled up his hero and his moves still just looked like hacks and slashes The magic also seems very generic at this point and the particular effects don't look so great especially the fireball ( this may look better in high quality screens though). The push spell seems really weak. Death looks horrible. Getting back up didn't look heroic at all and it didn't even knock anyone down in the video I saw. With death being such a nothing consequence I don't see any reason to care about losing your health at all. Might as well not even level up and just run up to a boss and keep hitting him till you can progress to the next portion of the story. The magic UI doesn't fit and why take away the mini map and replace it with the trail that most don't like if you are going to have the Dpad menu on the screen most of the time. It would of taken up about the same space. On a positive note, the world looks great. I like the expression mini games. Hope there are some for the rude expressions too ![Smily [:)]](/emoticons/emotion-1.gif) Depth of the NPC relationships sound great. The new property system looks ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) to. The crime system is interesting but seems like it may be a little too lenient. What happens if you don't do the community service after excepting it? There's alot more that could be said but I think I'll leave it at that for now.
Thank you Ralph H. Baer

Re: Poll: For Fable 2 was E3 a flop, hit or so-so?
I quite liked the presentation at E3, it was one of the very few decent things there. It was very clearly rushed though, it would have been nice if he had more time to demonstrate and show a bit more of it off, but it basically felt like he was getting pushed off stage, so they could move on to the casual games. Certainly wouldn't have called it a flop though, what we saw was ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) . My only real complaint would be with the announced release date, it was a little vague, and we basically already knew it would be October.

The Bowerstone demo was excellent and to me the best part, if it had been reported as much as the combat did I would have been more impressed.
But like you said “What they wish to report is up to them.” ![Lick [:lick:]](/emoticons/lick.gif)
The way the mini games are entwined into the game is great, not switching to a new scene but instead staying involved in the world is excellent.
I agree there is a ton of features in F2 that will wow casual gamers, and never said F2 didn’t.
I trying to say E3 did not show it off, but hopefully your right and we will be seeing more videos in the coming days.

The Fable 2 presentation was 1,000,000,000,000,000 better than that of any other game. Sure we still have some questions and they have a few bugs left to fix but all in all Fable 2 was the greatest game present at E3. Anyone who says that presentation was anything less than excellent is horribly wrong.
To all who are complaining: If you don't like the game don't buy it. In the end the only people missing out on the greatest RPG ever made are those who don't buy it.

LOL, exactly, I can't imagine it being better than what it was. ![Smily [:)]](/emoticons/emotion-1.gif) I watched every video, read every report. At the last E3 video Peter did, the guy interviewing him, looked like he wanted to grab the controller out of Peter's hand and play himself. I sure wanted to.
