Re: Introduce yourself to the community here
*Hug*
I'm not really the huggy type so its more of a pat on the back sort of hug that you get when you kind of feel akward about hugging someone new.
A bit about me. I'm Nate, aka Brokienheart. The screen name is a long story, but simply its one of my RPG names that just kind of stuck with me. I have been the most active in the community since...erm...my last movie came out in December. Ever since 'My Love Goes On's release I think I have become more community oriented.
much respect for rjb for putting this up. I have had much respect for him before, he is just a great person and community involved.

Re: Introduce yourself to the community here
I am not a big hugger, but a smile to you all.
add something more to your posts such as a bit about yourself, how long you've been here and what you like best about the TM community or something
I'm a 39-year-old woman (yes I am old), I've been visiting the site since Christmas ("The Movies" was my number one gift request), and what I like best about the community: lots of nice people and interesting discussion.

<> and a round of c[[]]
Nice post rjb.
BTW, I was given this game as an early christmas present late November, I didn't join the forums until December. I have made a few good friends so far and am always on the lookout for more.
Best Wishes.

Re: Introduce yourself to the community here
Bah! I'm an uptight Englishman (I live just down the road from rjb) and I hate hugs. I'll buy anyone a drink though. Will that do?
Been here since the turn of the year and still trying to find my feet a bit. There are lots of nice, helpful people here and I wouldn't want to single out any particular individual above the others, although I've found Zogg's neverending efforts to push the technical limits of the game particularly inspiring. There are also a few morons around the place but I'm gradually adjusting the radar to eliminate them from view.
A bit like Zannder, I'm really a writer at heart, but The Movies enables me to create my stories without having to write out all that tedious, descriptive prose. From which you can probably tell that my main characteristic is sheer idleness.

Re: Introduce yourself to the community here
Wow!
I just came online, and I certainly didn't expect this thread to have got this far.
This is what I like seeing, everybody getting along and having fun.
To all the other Brits: I know hugging another man makes you feel uncomfortable, so handshakes are quite acceptable.
A bit about myself then.
My name is Roger, I'm 41 years old, and I am married to Alex (Alexandra), who is my soulmate. She is disabled, and an American (explains the hugging thing). I look after her full time, And we live in Eastbourne, England (The sunshine coast).
I gave up work to look after Alex about two years ago, before that I was a plumber.
We live with our little dog Tuc (he's on my studio logo down below).
The first person who welcomed and helped me into the community was Glynner, who has now gone on to become a teacher. He is currently without a PC, which is why we haven't seen him about.
A lot of people have been very kind to me since, and I count many of them as friends now. I won't list them all, because there of so many of you, but special thank you's to L. and to G. you know who you are.
I have never been involved in forums before, so this community is a real eye opener for me. It has restored my faith in human nature. Really it has. There are a lot of really good people here on TMO.
I run an open door policy, anybody who ever wants a chat can contact me anytime. Anyone who has spoken to me on MSN will confirm that I am a total chatterbox. ![Happy [:)]](/Emoticons/happy.gif)
So what do I like about TMO?
Friendship and community obviously.
I also like the fact that I get to meet people from all over the world. There are so many nice people here, for who their first language is not English, that make a huge effort to fit in this community. This something I appreciate a lot.
I also like those little expressions of ourselves, that we call movies.
Why do I like them?
Well, I don't watch many real films anymore, and I watch very little TV. Much of it is aimed at the lowest common denominator, because of financial reasons. They have to put out a product which will have the most viewers. So artistic and intelligent films are rare.
But here on TMO, real money is not a factor. So even though there is a lot of complete garbage here, there is also a goldmine of exceptional films.
What I mean by this is. When I watch a film, I like to feel a connection with the writer/director. A bit like when you read a book. I like to feel the emotion that was put into the story, without the idea having being diluted for popular appeal. A good example of this, is the Film Pretty Woman, in the original version, the female lead dies. But most people like a happy ending, so it was changed.
On TMO, you will find a lot of films that don't fit the Hollywood mould, they don't always have a happy ending. They can often reflect reality in a way that most real films don't.
I'll give a few examples: Take the recent release 'Deception' by JohnOkinowa. Erin of Erinnicole93 does a VO in the film, she felt the part she played upsetting to do. This real tension of this comes across in the film. That kind of depth and reality can not be found in mass marketed movies. Take also chocolatemouse's 'We Closed Our Eyes', With a combination of music, audio clips, imagery, and a few subtitles, she managed to convey a whole wealth of emotion, that made me sit down and rethink my whole attitude to WW2.
These kind of emotions are rarely found in Hollywood, there are exceptions, Schindlers list comes to mind.
So what I have found is that TMO movies, fill a need for me, they give me a direct connection with the creators of the films. That is why many of you who have been reviewed by me, will note that I often comment on the emotional quality, rather than the technical quality.
So for me TMO is my TV.

Re: Introduce yourself to the community here
Oh God. This is just like one of those meetings at work where the bosses tell us we're going to be doing "Moral-building, team-spirit activities. And the IT department are going to be included too."
I mean, team building, fair enough, usually just a big piss-up once or twice a year in a few pubs, but the IT department? Even I think they're elitist idiots. Some of them, at least.
GET AWAY FROM ME, SOULLESS MINIONS OF ORTHODOXY!

Re: Introduce yourself to the community here
And as Admiral Fluke wants us to keep it movie-related with info about ourselves:
I'm a wee young Furby who refuses to grow up, I have a job with a multi-national company as a professional doormat. I like reading, writing, gaming and TV. I'm a vegetarian (though not a rabid one) and I tend to have a somewhat realistic view of life (optimists would call me a pessimist, and vice versa). I have no kids and my marital status is singal. My dislikes include disrespectful behaviour, the teenagers who live in the neighbourhood here, and the fact that wars are necessary. I collect things; in the past this has been such things as stamps and charity pins, currently I am collecting knives and swords (albeit slowly) and pets (currently clocked in a 1 dog, 1 cat, 3 rats and many tropical fish).
Some of my other interests include horse riding (jumping being my favourite activity), painting and being unfashionable. I've not had a "life" for around 10 years, which also MYSTERIOUSLY co-incides with the length of time I've been online.
Currently I am watching The Simpsons.

Re: Introduce yourself to the community here
Hey, hugs from Spain.
My name is Juan, I write for a barely living (in spanish of course). Yep, I know my english stinks. I live with my lovely girlfriend and no crocodiles. A windblast took my TV's antenna away several years ago, so I just watch DVDs and documentaries... and buy some newspapers... I don't know why yet.
I like TMO since it's fun to tell stories, it's the thing I enjoy more. And telling movies, I can pay tribute to these movies and tales I enjoyed... so my books doesn't have all the lot of fanboy references it usually had, after I put them in TMO.
I like the kind community which is building here... there are some disturbs, as always, but sometimes it's nice to speak with you, guys.
(...)
So... finally there is no dates for orgies with naked cheerleaders in this forum? Aw, forget all I said before. I hate all this!

Re: Introduce yourself to the community here
Well, there are many hugs among men, and talking about brit's hugs, I lived in Scotland for three years and had both irish and scottish "men hugs" (after a few drinks, of course, when you start screaming to everyone in the pub "I love you people! I love you all!!" and all that) The difference is that that irish-scotch hug is a back-breaker: A competition to see who leaves more pain on each others spines. Any other kind of hug is inexistance around there ^^.
Anyways, am Spanish, studied sociology at uni, 28 or 29 years old (not sure anymore). Currently a bum. Lived (and worked, yes, i used to work!) in Scotland for three years and got so into that people that they say am an scottish living in Spain more than the other way around. Oh, well... maybe the reason is that i can't remember half of those 3 years (only remember getting in a pub, blank, getting in a pub, blank....). Truth is that, after a year over there, everyone i met never found out my nationality b4 i told them (after three years my accent went quite weird... like the mumbling in the movies or somthing) and even went to a spanish party faking i was french with a complete success. Well, just for those who never went to Edinburgh, i must say that is quite a cosmopolite city for such a small size: People from everywhere over there, so if your mother tongue is not english you might end up mixing accents when you speak (not to speak about the scottish accent itself... which is just amazing!!!! ^^)
Anways, like most of the people around here I started playing in Xmas. First person that made me feel welcome? hmmm... i guess it was Ozman. After writing one of my first posts (first one in the same thread), i got an inmediate answer back from him. He said "off-topic" ^^ (probably learned it from mortalis) What he doesnt know yet is that my first review (even b4 that off-topic funny thing) was to one of his movies and was an unfair 1-star *blushes* After seeing many other movies i still regret about it and now is even hard for me to write a review.... after all... look at that 20-eyed baby! who can drop a 1-star review to something so.... so...ehmmm... *cough*cute*cough*. If he reads this: Sorry about that one... i was veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery newbie and in a bad mood that day.
There is also Millahana, who turns to drop inmediate answers whenever i have a question. I only see her posts when I ask something, never seems to fail. Also that she seems to have the same issues when it comes to uploading a FIRST movie. I bet she'll do it first: am very stubborn.
And... dunno... what I like the best about TMO...? ... mmmmh..... mmmmmmmmmmmh...... mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmh....... :P Well, apart from the fact that I feel more confi speaking/writing in english than in my own language (i guess i miss Edinburgh)... maybe because sometimes the posts not only speak about the game but about many other things around movies, ethics and -sometimes becomes my favourite- plain ranting...... Oh... I don't know, damnit, i simply am in the forums!!!

Hi, my names Matthew and i'm a Taurus. I'm 6'3" with a slim athletic figure, looking for a woman or man with GSOH (non smoker preferred) who enjoys having a mouse in their hand (chocolate or otherwise) . I'm an American in training which basically involves me going around saying stuff like 'Awesome' , 'two eggs, over easy' and 'hold the mayo'
I once jumped (more pushed) out of a plane and have also been in a tank with several sharks (a water tank, not a T-72)
You'll also discover that real hash browns are not weatabix shaped.
That mince is called hamburger, but it doesn't taste like our mince. That's because it comes from prime steak.
And you'll learn to say things like " I'll take a decaf latte with half & half, and a pastrami on rye, to go", and you'll know what it means too.
When you go to Wrigley field, you'll discover what bleachers, homers and a double play are.
Also Chicago has some great museums and great radio stations, many of which you can listen to over the net. I'm quite partial to WDRV The Drive (Classic Rock) and WNUA (Smooth Jazz).

Re: Introduce yourself to the community here
quite an interesting conversation we have going here. Some of these post sound more like a singles dating website. ![Wink [;)]](/Emoticons/wink.gif) I dunno if hugs are common amoung men in American or uncommon....and I am an American. I guess its more common with people you know. Random hugs are just kind of weird. I'll take smiles, handshakes and whatever else to substitute also.
