Drug tsar sacked for stating facts ...

short story - Labour sacked/forced to resign their appointed drugs "tsar" last night because he simply stated Canabis, LSD and ecstasy are less dangerous than alcohol and smoking ...

long bit - Am I the only one that finds this worrying?

    1) The "fact" is one that most drug users, especially those that regularly take said drugs, already know and have been saying for years. So why sack your "tsar" (i find this term rather amusing for other reasons) for stating a fact...

    2) Why sack someone for actually giving you proper, unbiased facts based on evidence, all it does is send the wrong message to the scientific community - "we don't listen to your evidence unless it suits our agenda"

    3) I am reminded more and more of George Orwells 1984, with just about everything this governemtn do I feel like the UK is more nad more in the grips of a power crazed idiot ... now I'll probably disapear or get arrested or something for saying that ... joy!

anyway - opinions, thoughts etc etc, what do y'all thinik?!

That politicians only listen to science when it suits their political agenda is already well known within the scientific community. No surprises there.

The UK is probably the nation closest to an Orwellian society I can think of. At least in the western world.

What worries me more is the general trend in the media at the moment of framing scientific data as opinion; drugs, global warming, and aids have all been in the UK news in the last few weeks as "he said this with data, but she thinks the opposite" pieces.

None of this worries me at all, frankly. Orwellian comparisons are ever so slightly far-fetched.

It's stupid and idiotic though, no doubt about that. But so many stupid and idiotic things happen in just about every country I've visited/lived, it just tells me who I wont be voting for.

If it really was similar 1984, then you wouldn't know the facts at all. You wouldn't have access to the internet to discuss these things freely, we wouldn't have the BBC as we know it etc.

The only thing worse than beating a dead horse is betting on one.

I don't know I kind of thought we were sorta of slowly headed  toward Orwells 1984 over here on the other side of the pond.  Every where you turn there are cameras watching you.

Here in Dixie Land  instead of the police monitoring traffic we have cameras that take your picture and issue citations for those who run red lights.

Interestingly, the other day at one said intersection an ambulance came up running hot and two cars pull out in to the intersection to clear a path for the ambulance then they backed back in to postition.  Wonder how many times the camera took their picture?

You would think if the town can afford cameras they could afford sensors that make the lights turn green when an emergency vehicle goes through.

    Sorry this got off topic.

If China was more technologically up to date, they would most likely be the Orwellian epitome.

Hm, I have long suspected the alcohol industry is paying off politicians, to keep pot illegal. It has been proven to help a lot of people, who are in horrible pain, to take the edge off of the pain. It's really sad when a doctor can't help his patients, but allows them to suffer, or get hooked on heavy pain medications, that really get them adicted. Sad [:(]
He got sacked for telling the truth. That's unfortunate.  Cry []

Has anyone else ever noticed that even though pot makes people hungry, most stoners are very skinny? I thought obesity was one of the most deadly health problems. It seems like pot could save a lot of lives if it fights obesity. Has anyone else ever noticed how much skinnier pot smokers seem to be?

I dont think most stoners are skinny, i've seen lots of fat stoners, actually that is the ones i see most of. I think a treadmill or something like that would be much more effective and healthy.

News just in: at 19:84 the Drugs Tsar and his entire family were taken into the basement of a house in Ekaterinburg where all of them were subsequently shot.

An eye-witness commented that the event was "DoubleplusunG o o d [Good]."

pot dose not make you skinny, i think that is the generic hippy/stoner sterotype talking. meh i cant say for sure, but i digress. there are meany reasons they should legalise pot, among other things. but for the momenti can only think of three things that are stoping them.

first, in my opinion goverments have built up a bit of an prejudice against narcotics, witch would be rather hard to break down.

secondly, there is a tremendous amount of predujiced, and ignorance, among society about these sort of drugs. (and video games or anything else the media can crusify for sales) and most logical arguments, are dismised as the deranged ramblings of, "stoners" or some other label, they give to whomever has been excludid from, "normal society" at the time.

and thirdly, where pot to be legalised, i imagine it would take a considerable amount of money from alchohol and nicotine manufactorers. imagine just what budwiser would think, to a form of anibreation, that was cheaper, better for you, and gave a somewhat reduced hangover the morning after. so i think it is not a stretch to see, these two rather influential industrys, putting all there will against the legalisation of pot.

oh, and it would also provide a handy excuse, for goverment oficiols to contest it, with the excuse of "we dont whant to destroy the industry".

I don't think you know how to use that phrase.

Even if that were true, alcohol, tobacco, and pornagraphy are the three markets that never ever lose sales when the economy is bad.  People will sacrifice their groceries before their sweet alcohol, so I doubt people, especially alcoholics, would give it up for cannabis.
