    Milo smoke and mirrors

All I’m going to say about Milo is that its not legit. there were a lot of smoke and mirrors going on there, not the case with the ball demo [Ricochet] and the other stuff but with Milo there was definitely a little bit of deception going on.

    Other interesting stuff

Instructed by Microsoft to follow exactly what was shown in the video.
Milo says rudimentary open ended statements that will fit into whatever you say.

Sounds like there is still a long way to go and just goes to show how staged that video really was. Kind of expected though with so many other none gaming companies working on this stuff and still not having anything near as advanced.

    Re: Milo in the press!

Um, yes... Without even getting into my personal opinion of Mr. Shane Sattersfield (suffices to say that it isn't very positive), Peter Molyneux already addressed those concerns in the Edge Online interview:

Some accounts on the internet have claimed there were people with controllers around the back of the demonstrations. Have the people that have played over the last day or so purely been interfacing with the machine?

You’ve got to remember that this is very, very new tech, and quite often we need to reboot the machine, so there’s someone in the back in case something goes wrong. There’s no cheating, absolutely not. I thought actually, when they were there, ‘Oh my God, it’s going to look like there’s a puppeteer in the background,’ but there’s not, absolutely not.

I also read somewhere that the laptop was used to emulate the processing elements which will be included in the finalized Natal hardware.

As far as the open-ended statements go, yes, that's probably how it works. As far as I know, that's common for those types of artificial intelligence projects. I hope you didn't really think Milo could actually comprehend the things you say to him and give you the exact answers.

Well of course you were supposed to think that was so.   Mr. Molyneaux has a talent for doing this with his projects; I don't know how far it dates back, but I remember similar development-stage demons of Black & White by him, where he showed you features in the game in a way that simply had you believing that anything was possible in the game.

The best examplie is the demonstration of B&W's smoothe and wide-ranged 'zooming' system, where he zooms all the way out, so you can see the whole map you're playing on, and then zooms in so that you can see a building, then a barrel next to the building, then an apple on the building, then a tiny worm wiggling in that apple.  Which, by the way, is the only level of detail in the game which is that fine.  I'm sure plenty of people have played B&W without even seeing that apple.

Mr. Molyneax does this;  It was done again somewhat with Fable.  Then of course the realities of game development hit in and leading to a final project that is much more pragmatic.  But, such as in the case of Fable, you get the feeling that it is a G o o d [Good] game- a fun game, that was originally intended to be much, much more and simply had a lot of planned features cut out.

Perhaps he's a bit of a trickster; Perhaps he really believes that he will accomplish what he tries to make the games look like.  I tend more toward the first;  he knows how, with mischevious smile, to generate the right kind of hype to get people looking at his projects.

In preview viewings he does call people by their name. Crazy [] (Or at least he should in the final product.) ^^ [^^]

    Re: Milo in the press!

When it comes out, if I haven't got it out of my group of friends, I am gonna see it at one of thiers, and I shall screw with it on the first go and see what happens. Like I will say my name is "Mr Boobieman" and I am a "facist dictator" and I live in "yub-yub land" and see if he believes that crap or takes it with a pinch of salt (if he asks it, if he does not, I'LL MAKE HIM). That is what I am gonna do.

I have said it before and will continue to say it. The only realistic expectation anyone can have from Milo is to be a horrible failure and a complete waste of resources.

    Re: Milo in the press!

I disagree! I think it's also reasonable to assume that Milo will be sold through shops, and possibly online retailers. There will, in my opinion, be an exchanging of monies involved. Milo will come in packaging of some kind, of that I am certain. I also expect that Milo will be reviewed in the press. These facts and more were revealed to me in a vision of a possible future, and I believe that this vision could reasonably come to pass if we don't act now!

But don't you know Nunberry? Lionhead are terrible developers who wouldn't know AI if it hit them in the face, wiggled it's big toe in the proverbial lions nose and proceeded to break into joyful song about the wonders of Skynet.

    Re: Milo in the press!

If the AI is hitting them very hard in the face and sending the cartilage in their nose back into their brain Joe Hallenbeck style then that's not surprising.

the problem with Lionhead is, if Peter looked you in the eye on a clement summer's eve and said "I'm going to pull a cloud out of the sky for you!", then reached up, grabbed a cloud and put it in your hand, you'd be all like "Wow! How awesome! My own cloud! I shall name you Clarence The Cloud. I love you Clarence". But he doesn't he says "I'm going to pull the stars down from the sky, weave them into a cloak and drape that regal prince-of-the-universe cloak on your shoulders" then comes back 2 years later and says "Yeah... that stars thing didn't really work out but here : I got you this cloud" and you're all like "Stupid cloud. Stupid Peter. STUPID f****ng WORLD" and then you totally start shooting motherfuckers in theys dome. True dat.

    Re: Milo in the press!

Yep, that's pretty damned accurate. People always judge Lionhead's games by a standard that is almost entirely imaginary, built upon the foundations of hype and the cornerstone of exaggerated promises.

Although I must include a disclaimer for any developers who come across my post above and become offended perchance, I was definitely being sarcastic.

Well I think no matter what it shall be fun even if everyone else wants to complain I see nothing but a better future of games coming out of this.

Oh no!! The beginning of Skynet!
I better start work on my Arnold Schwarzzanegger look-alike cybernetic organism in order to send it back in time to stop this from happening.

    Looks great though.
