    I see a lot of people saying this on fan fics, but I agree with this one. Plus there are no Fable books around, except in the game.

    Do I get my free copy now?

    Re: A New World, Into the Bandit Camp they Crept

    ~~~~Look, I appreciate comments, but half a page of them between chapters is a bit much.  It gets hard for people to read the story fluidly if there's too much of a break between them.~~~~
        Maze had his sword sheathed, but his hand was on the hilt, seeking reassurance.  The bandits' tents surrounded campfires in a somewhat circular arrangement, the entrances facing inward.  "I have a bad feeling about this one" Margaret whispered.  Maze felt the same way, there was definately something wrong.  The night was silent and moonless, he only light came from the stars and the fires.  The only noises were the crackling of the logs and the rustling of the wind in the trees.  There was just one problem.  The smoke from the fires was wafting straight up, and there wasn't even a hint of a breeze in the grass. "It's a trap!" Maze muttered to Margaret.  The bandits leaped down from the tree boughs in which they had awaited the ambush, surrounding Margaret and Maze in a ring of enemies.  "Nice of you to notice that, Maze" she retorted, drawing her blade.  "No problem" he quipped, pulling back the hammer on his pistol. The enemy charged, swords, axes, and maces raised over their heads.  Maze and Margaret fired their pistos in tandem, and a sudden *crack,crack* was the last thing two bandits heard.  Maze lobbed a fireball at a group of three that seemed a little too close together.  Margaret summoned a group of ethereal longswords and sent them shooting at a pair of large, brutish bandits.  The survivors continued to gain ground, and soon had maze and Margaret back to back with swords out.  An axe wielder swung his weapon down at Maze's arm, but missed.  He did not get a second chance to strike, as Maze used the opening to sever his head from his body.  A tall bandit attempted to cleave Margaret's head in two with his longsword, but she parried the blow and sliced through his gut.  "Four more to go!" Maze called out.  "Make that three!" Margaret replied, pulling her cutlass out of a bandit chest as it slumped to the ground.  Blades twirling in the night, they polished off the remainder of the attackers and began their return to Bowerstone.
        "Not so fast, there! I have a problem with two upstart villagers killing my lads; it doesn't make me look very G o o d [Good], now does it?"  Thag was a large bandit, with a helm formed from the head of a buck.  What could be seen of his face was heavily scarred, proof of many battles fought and won.  "One more shouldn't be a problem, eh Maze?" Margaret commented. She was still inexperienced in true battle, and had not learned to gauge an opponent on sight.  "He's older than the others, Margaret.  The only way Bandits get old is by being the best . . . and staying that way" Maze cautioned her.  You're a clever boy, but that won't keep me from killing you". Thag smirked as he said this and drew his blade.  "Time to die!" he roared, coming at them suddenly, before they could prepare their guns.  Maze cast lightning in desperation, but it merely slowed the badit leader down.  Cursing and grunting, Thag knocked Maze to the ground, breaking off the spell.  Winded, Maze tried to pull up his sword to stop the ineveitable blow, but was unable to move.  Luckily for him, he wasn't alone.  Margaret fired a shot from her pistol, hitting Thag in the shoulder.  She had used Maze's lightning as an opportunity to reload while the bandit leader was distracted.  Turning his attention towards her, Thag left Maze prostrate on the ground to attack the new threat.  He slashed and hacked at Margaret with a frenzied intensity.  Already heavily taxed by the previous fighting, she knew that it was only a matter of time before Thag breached her defenses.  Maze shakily got to his feet.  He poured powder into his pistol, dropped in a musket ball, tore off a bit of his sleeve with his teeth and rammed it down the barrel with the ramrod on his gun.  Taking aim, he saw Margaret falter and Thag raise his sword for the final blow.  A sharp retort from the pistol sebt the ball throgh the back of his skull.  Margaret saw his grip on his sword falter as his eyes glazed over.  With a thud, the bandit fell to his knees, then his face met the ground.  The battle was over.
    Re: A New World, Bowerstone Saved
       ~~~~My next post will be after Fable 2 is released(for those who get it on the legal date)!  It will influence my writing, but I will make the story my own in the same way that I have so far; taking the general storyline and a few specifics, but retelling them in my own fashion and with a few twists.  I can't wait for the world of Albion to inspire me once again . . .~~~~

       Thag's head was beginning to smell foul, but the villagers needed proof before they would let anyone in.  Standing at the gate into Bowerstone, Maze raised it high for the guards to see.  "It's him all right! Okay boys, let 'em through!"  After a short meal at the tavern (paid for by a tale of the quest), Maze and Margaret turned in for the night.  By morning, it seemed that everyone in Bowerstone had heard of their accomplishments.  The barkeep appeared to have profited a great deal from the matter, as many villagers stopped by for a pint and the story.  although they received no gold, Margaret and Maze were more than compensated in gratitude.  The shops gave them steep discounts, the villagers talked more openly to them, and they were no longer the strangers in town.  It took a few days for the first traders to begin returning to Bowerstone, but once they did, it did not take long for the others to find out that it was safe once again.  Maze heard account from the seaside town of Westcliff, the ill-reputed port town of Bloodstone, and the wilds that lay outside the cities.  Brightwood was full of bandits,balverines lurked in the darkest regions of forests, and hobbes were a threat almost anywhere.  Worse, the undead (known to the villagers as Hollow Men) haunted graveyards and ruined towns, which were often located along the most established trade routes.  No one seemed to care about one missing lord holed away in his Spire.  "Lord Lucien has always been a strange one- well, after his wife and child died, that is.  Kept to himself since then, he has" a bearded old trader informed Maze.
        It seemed that there would be no leads to Lucien in Bowerstone, but just as Maze began to give up hope on the information of traders, a new lead appeared.  Maze received a message from Theresa over his Guild Seal.  She wanted to meet him by the clock tower in a day's time, and it was important.  She revealed nothing more, worrying that an agent of Lucien might have been tracking her communications.  It was almost time to leave Bowerstone, and Maze hoped that Theresa had a real lead on Lucien. That night, he began to ready his gear for travel again, but Margaret did not.  "I have decided to stay in Bowerstone, at least for now" she said.  "Even if Theresa has a viable lead, we still need to keep our ears open here.  This is Lucien's home, after all.  At the very least, I can keep this house supplied and ready in case someone else attacks Bowerstone.  It can't hurt to keep an eye on the shops, too.  If new weapons come in, I want to get first pick at them.  We should have a base of operations, and right now, here is the best place for it."  Maze didn't argue. There was no point in trying, she had obviously made up her mind.  "Of course, if you need me, you have a Guild Seal to call me with.  I'll keep my sword sharp and my gun clean, just in case."  Maze nodded in aknowledgement and continued to pack.  The meeting with Theresa would be revealing, indeed.

    Re: A New World, Fate

       ~~~~Happy Halloween! Sorry this is short, very busy week . . .~~~~
       Theresa appeared in Bowerstone as if from thin air.  No one noticed her presence, and she quietly made her way to the clocktower.  Maze remained silent as she approached; he was ready for any information she had, and did not feel like wasting words on small talk.  "We have much to discuss. Come."  Following her lead, Maze kept quiet until they reached their apparent destination- a secluded area of Old Town with a view of the ocean.  Protruding out of it in the distance was a tall structure- the Spire.  "Yes, that is the Spire, where Lucien now resides" spoke Theresa.  "You will not be rushing off after Lucien, however.  his forces are too powerful for that.  Instead, you are fated to gather three heroes to face him.  Each is a master of one element of the Hero ways: Strength, Skill, and Will.  These cards will explain more, but I have not the time to answer questions.  May you be succesful in your quest."  Without a further word, Theresa vanished into the night.  Maze looked out to sea, a lone figure in the moonlight.
     Off topic but 'A New World' is the title I chose for my A level art project Stick out tongue [:P]
    Re: A New World, Fate
    This was designed to be read in parts for a few reasons.  One is that breaking it up keeps it from becoming a "wall of text" that seems too long to read, while another is that this way allows for evaluation and makes proofreading easier.  The more you write at once, the more errors you'll miss.  It's also difficult because copying these can only be done one at a time with "quote", I haven't been able to highlight and copy-paste from posts here.  There is a partial copy on my Notepad, but it's missing the first sections.  Perhaps I'll do a "second edition" in single-post form after I finish this (and that will be a while, I plan to extend the storyline beyond the game's ending), but for now it will stay as it is.  It's nice to hear a critique for once, though.  I have no problem with criticism as long as it is polite and constructive.
    Re: A New World, Path to Oakfield
       Rookridge, Maze decided, was cold, wet, windy and generally miserable.  An exposed path that wound along cliffsides and mountains, Rookridge seemed to rain constantly.  The longcoat that he had decided to buy in Bowerstone turned out to be a wise purchase, but it didn't completely stop the wind-tossed rain from soaking into his clothes.   Finding an old shack, he decided to dry himself off with a handheld fireball.  The orange glow soon left his garments warm and a bit dryer, but the light also attracted some unwanted attention.  A group of bandits camped on a nearby cliff saw the fire and mistook it for a trader camping out in the shack.  There had been relatively few traders passing through in recent days, and they welcomed the opportunity to attack this new mark.
       As they charged down the path towards the shack they made the decision to go in yelling and roaring threats.  A mistake on their part, as it gave Maze plenty of time to spot them and draw his pistol.  Aiming for the lead bandit's head, he pulled the trigger.  He got only a click and a squelching sound.  Wet powder.  Irritated, Maze knew that he should have stored it in a drier place than his belt holster, but it was a bit late for that now.  Drawing his sword, Maze prepared to face the bandits at close range.  The closest bandit went for him without waiting for the others to catch up.  Taking a downward swing, the bandit found his blow blocked by Maze's sword.  Maze proceeded to kick the bandit in the chest, sending him staggering backwards.  Not watching his step, the bandit slipped on a stone and fell on his back.  A stab through the heart finished him off and left Maze with a crimson-tipped blade.  The other four thugs decided on a more planned approach, and formed a circle around Maze to keep him from taking them down one by one.  Maze summoned his Will and pounded the ground with his fist, unleashing a wave of flame around him that spread outward, catching the bandits' clothes on fire.  Although the rain quickly put out the flames, the bandits were taken aback by being caught on fire and proceeded to panic.  Running as fast as they could, they did not turn back to see Maze charge up an arc of lightning.  Three of them made it over a nearby hill, but wan was left on the road as a crackling skeleton.  Maze continued on towards Oakfield, which he had heard lay across the other side of a large bridge . . .
