oron345:The fact that they took a knife and killed vampire lore is a start as to why I really can not stand Twilight.
I see that argument pop up quite often and I wonder if ain't just one of those phrases people throw out when nothing else comes to mind like:
"I really hate Jews"
"Why?"
"Uhm, ...because they nailed the Saviour!"
"But you ain't Christian?"
"So, what?"...
Fact is, I don't see how "twilight" killed Vampire lore? Not any more at least that any given other book might be accused of having done so; every author ever (at least every one worth his salt) liked to put his personal spin on Vampires. Given, Stephenie's kind of rotate. ![Smily [:)]](/emoticons/emotion-1.gif)

I gave you a valid reason and you still argue? I am assuming your a fan of Twilight in this case. So I will give several reasons as to why I (keep in mind I said I not why I think you shouldn't like it) do not like Twilight. Firstly, the vampires sparkle in the sun. I thought that was a terrible idea, especially the fact that vampires can go in the sun.. I thought that was one of the main drawbacks of being a vampire. Secondly, Bella (if I recall her name correctly) is the most boring and dull character ever created and yet the story is based almost entirely around her. Also if vampires are so insanely strong why haven't they taken over the world yet? I mean how can humanity hope to survive when there are these things that can not be killed, have super speed and super strenght, running around eating people?

oron345: LethargicMotivator:Caring deeply about vampire lore is stupid.
I am guessing you are aiming that towards me in which case I do not care much at all for vampire lore but I still know what a vampire is supposed to be. The fact that this book totally changed that is ridiculous in my opinion. It would have been much better if the author came up with a new name for this 'new race' she invented.
Read my earlier posts in this thread about why claiming what you know about vampire lore to be the way it should be, and everything else as ludicrous is silly. I can't be bothered repeating them.
I only wrote this because I hate you.

oron345:I gave you a valid reason and you still argue?
You are missing my point here, I see the same argument used sometimes against "Underworld" (e.g. "Underworld ruined the Werewolf genre"), and I have to an extent agree with that, Underworld had a huge impact on the field that changed accepted ideas about what werewolves are, but I see non of that happening with "twilight"; Vampires that could moonlight (make that "sunlight") as Disco Balls do not really appear anywhere else. People ain't suddenly expecting that Vampires sparkle (*hiss* *pop*, bite). So the "twilight killed vampire lore" argument is vain, more so "twilight" is just another book in a long line that put a new spin on vampires, see "Lifeforce" (no, really, go and watch the movie if you don't want to hunt down the book! Mathilda May is a true sight for sore eyes!) where they call their aliens vampires in all but name.
It's not that I don't get why people might not like "twilight", I just find it irrational how many people argument against the book with either wild exaggerations or based on their feelings for the fanbase. ![Smily [:)]](/emoticons/emotion-1.gif)
Though, I give you that: There's quite a number of movies that I dislike for their use of Dracula as a key figure (often casted with an actor that I would barely use to play Renfield) without doing him justice.

I'm going to have to disagree with this. For the casual reader, obviously, Twilight isn't changing anything. That said, I've come across more than a few people (several cousins, both Mormons that I work with, assorted folks-- usually young squeeing teenage girls-- that I've happened across at various points in time) who take SMeyer's novels as vampire canon, and/or think that her series is heavily based on folklore. All they knew previously about vampires is that they drink blood to stay alive, and, at the very least, that's a feature of the novels. If that's "accurate" then, so must be the vampire vegan diet and the sparkling in sunlight and the liquid topaz eyes.
But it's entirely possible that I know a lot of morons, so perhaps this isn't a widespread phenomenon.

Why are you concerned about what other people think about some mythological creature?

Personally I dont like twilight. I found the characters and story rather bland and boring. If it wasn't for the fact that I know it is published book and movie I would seriously think that it was made up by some 13 year old girl writing down her little fantasies. What annoys to most about the book is the legion of fan girls that scream any time they see that talentless *** that plays Edward appear on the screen I mean he plays the part of being undead quite well, never seen such wooden corpse like actor in my life. And oh the fan girls are also alot of fun aswell, when asked if I enjoyed the movie (the things we do for loved ones) I of course said I thought it was terrible, a girl barely above the age of 13 came over and slapped me across the face for saying so. But hey what ever gets them reading eh ![Wink [;)]](/emoticons/emotion-5.gif) (Oh and long story short before I could react my girlfriend booted the girl right in the place where men dont want to be hit, twas har lar ious.) Guess I've just had a bad experience when it comes to this book.

Your girlfriend kicked the girl in the spine?
That's harsh.

dante906v2: icechild:dungons and dragons the very name is corny ![Stick out tongue [:P]](/emoticons/emotion-4.gif)
Before we turn this into a DnD discussion: Dungeons and Dragons is one of the most influental games before your fancy video games. OnTopic: Twilight is a fad that will probably die somewhere around the 45th movie.
4 books, 4 movies, Genius.
My opinion on twilight:
Brilliant book series, Not so ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) film.
Why?
Because it was a nice change from "burn baby burn" theme to Vampires.
The Romance is ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) , A bit cheesy but a ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) book series overall in my opinion.
