meshes from one game to the movies...

ok, i've checked some tutorials, but i am completely new to making mods, and hardally anything made sence to me... so how would i go about getting a mesh from a game, then converting it so i can use it in the movies... i need a step-by-step tutorial so i don't go asking stupid questions Smily [:)]

Also: i need to know how to get it to appear in the game without replacing anything....

Check out Directors Cut Modding Foundry (you will need to sign up there to access the G o o d [Good] bits if you haven't already) for in-depth TM modding advice and tools.

Re: meshes from one game to the movies...

You need to have some format that works in blender, then make it fit the "The Movies" body rig and apply it, then you would use the scripts to make it a .msh file.

    Mesh from which game exactly?

we'll i've downloaded a few mods for fallout 3... and was hoping i could put them into the movies... inculding some of the guns.... the..... the file type is .NIF

To be specific, i have downloaded Space marine armour (FTW!!).... i have now realised.... being the complete twit i am, that i have had the wrong version.... so i've now got the latest version of Nifskope... but... the arms on the mesh are not in place.... is that a problem?

Hum... .NIF I don't know if there is a script to open .NIF in blender, but I sure don't have it if there is.

Can't you make the mesh a .obj, .3ds...?

Edit: I found a .NIF script for blender.

Blender is not that hard, you just need to stick with it a little.

Re: meshes from one game to the movies...

As Beowulf says, like anything, you get out what you put in.  The more time you spend learning your way round the program, both the easier it will become and the more complicated things you'll be able to do in a shorter time.  But you do have to spend time "apprenticing" to it!  You're not gonna be turning out the likes of what's posted up on this thread, Mike's and elsewhere overnight; it will take time to get to grips with it.

With .NIF files you need to be careful; just because Blender can import them doesn't mean you'll be able to export them and use them in TM (they seem to be ultra-compressed for their level of detail); I've had quite a few that are widdly in size as NIFs, but when you've converted them, they end up so big that there's no way in hell I could use them without them crashing my computer.  You need to know what mesh pieces you can safely delete to bring the size down to a manageable level, etc, and that mostly comes with trial and error.

Costume modelling is an entirely different kettle of fish, to boot Smily [:)]

Re: meshes from one game to the movies...

Actually, Fallout 3 uses the time honoured poly cheat where it uses textures to give more detail than the model has. Bump mapping and spec mapping with some lum mapping give the appearance of detail where most of the models aren't really that high poly. I've got about a hundred models from quake 4 into the movies. And if i was G o o d [Good] at costume boneing, i'd have more.

Re: meshes from one game to the movies...

i'm going to have a go with making props, as i can't see them being as hard... Once i've got used to making things with belnder, i'll gradually start making costumes.... i just think costume making (and ripping) is a little to high for me at the mo...

Re: meshes from one game to the movies...

The Blender scripts to export in .MSH format are available from DCMF; there is no native option to export in that format.
