3D - Post it all here

We once had a thread called maya i believe, but it was dying out and there wasnt posted much 3d made in programs like 3d max and blender. So now i'm trying to just make a thread where you can post all the 3d stuff you messed around with lately or just want to show of your stuff and make yourself proud and make everyone else and their attemp to do something 3d look like crap Happy [:)] I start of by posting a mp3 player that i entered with in a competition ( click for a non blurry image) and here you see a knife that i made for a school project Now i command you to post your 3d ! Big Smile [:D]

Wow! Cool stuff! I wish I could do 3d modelling... Maybe someday. Happy [:)]

Ok an update on the lizard =): worked on the normal, specular and colour maps some more basically, and re shaped the head, reduced it by a few polys etc... Currentally at 1566 tris (800 or so quads) I'm liking how it's turning out (looking like my best game model so far o.O)

Wow. I'm so jealous! I've always been fascinated by 3D. Decided to start working on it last year, but due to school final exams, I gave up Sad [:(] Keep posting people! That's more eyecandy for me! Silly [:p]

So you all use Maya? Is it possible to do this in Blender 3D?

Re: 3D - Post it all here

No way Wink [;)] I''m using 3d max 8 but my school will soon upgrade to 9. But yes it should be possible to do the most in blender, but you can download a free trial of max and i'm sure there also is some trial of maya ( but havent ever downloaded a trial of that, so not sure)

Re: 3D - Post it all here

Hey that's a pretty good animation actually, i only just started on animating in 3dmax i find it alot harder than actually modelling. This is one of my first animations right here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVj9SlX5HMY

I use max 8 also - it's basically the general game modelling standard (except lionhead seem to be hireing guys with XIS experience??? - ok well it geneally is)... It is possible in blender but max and maya have tools that make it alot easier =).

Re: 3D - Post it all here

Here's a couple of concept shots from a very suspect Lovecraft animation I'm working on... (click for full size) and another concept one that got scrapped in the end... Also, an early concept shot for a landscape I did... which finished up as this... It loses a lot in JPEG compression - the bitmap looks much betterSad [:(]

Yeah well, the first two are a bit shoddy as they're being used in animations. The surroundings need to be fairly simple otherwise the rendering times get ridiculous. As it it, on my mini render-farm (3 PCs with about 10Gig processing power) it's taking about 45 minutes to render 1 second of animation. I was quite pleased with the last one, though, but seeing as that was always going to be a still image I could put more detail in and use some decent global illumination effectsHappy [:)]

Re: 3D - Post it all here

what programs do you use matneee my guess is Poser and Vue I also have Vue (Vue de'spirit to be exact cause there are alot of Vue types) and i have to say the rendering times for that is ridiculas but worth it. I want to get myself a Alienware computer fully upgraded 64-bit machines are the way to go with 3d stuff. Fact: 64-bit machince can have up to 16 tetrabytes of RAM, yes RAM
  •  12-17-2006, 14:00 2408883 in reply to 2400526

Re: 3D - Post it all here

Yeah, they're done in Vue. Poser wasn't used in any of those shots - it's render engine just isn't sophisticated enough - but I do use it for character animations which I then import into Vue scenes. I thought Vues render times were pretty good for what I was doing, to be honest, and it's used quite widely in the film industry now - they made a lot of the cannibal island in the last pirates of the carribean movie using it, apparently. Oh, and 64 bit machines potentially allow for more complexed scenes, but if you want to do animation it's just not worth the effort unless you've got several PCs networked. You'd be there for everWink [;)]

What programs do the pro game designers use for 3D? And what do they use for 2D?
