This is my first post and first FableII fanfic, hope you like it, more to come.
I have taken upon my self to study the nature and being of the subjects of freightening stories to scare children known as ‘Hobbes’. As the basics of these stories go it is said that if a child should wonder alone into the woods the most unfortunate boy or girl will turn into a hobbe themselves. Theses stories are, here in the more civilised part of chemas-microsoft-com

It is in the more rural parts such as the lush farmlands of Oakvale, where the threat of hobbe attack is far more real, that the stories are taken much more seriously. I myself would also have ignored such fables; had I not been in Oakvale collecting soil samples in order to make a scientific investigation into the ludicrous notion that a magical acorn makes the soil fertile.chemas-microsoft-com

In Oakvale I met miserable wretch of man, whilst having a pint in the Sandgoose to take a break from my labours, who was sobbing quite profusely, surrounded by many bottles of bear and making much of a scene. The poor drunkard was raving on about how his son had been turned into a hobbe and how the stories where true. Now normally I would have quietly avoided such a man, passing him off as a drunken buffoon, had I not recognised in his eyes the true sorrow of a broken man. Having lost my dear wife, a few years back now, I felt much pity towards him and decided to try and do my best to console him. He seemed mildly alarmed that I had decided to listen to him, to be honest I’m not surprised. As far as I could make out from his drunken slurs it appears his child wandered off into a hobbe cave whilst his back was turned, when they had gone ashore near the mouth of the river near Oakvale. Fortunately a stranger arrived, he didn’t say who she or he was, who had kindly and bravely, at his request, fought through the hobbes and managed to get to his son, who was behind a makeshift wooden wall, only to witness his hideous transformation. Since the mourning man managed to get out alive I presume the mighty stranger went on to kill the rest of the hobbes.>>

Now what is most interesting and adds credit to his claim was how apparantly deep the child was into the cave system before they found him. Even taking into account his drunkenness it seemed quite clear that they fought through the hobbes before they got to the child. Now this can mean one of three things: 1) What the man told me is false and is drunken piffle. 2) The child was very
at sneaking and got passed the hobbes that way, which is doubtful; or 3) The hobbes let the child through. If the latter is indeed the case then it demands investigation. For one of the basics everyone knows about hobbes is that they will violently attack humans on sight. So why did they not attack the child? I shall put my investigations into the fertility of Oakfield’s soil on hold for now, curiosity has seized my being and I shall embark up my endeavours tomorrow morning with much gusto. I will need to investigate the aforementioned cave first to check the validity of the man’s testimony. I’ll need to rustle up a guard or two incase any hobbes still remain in the cave. I cannot wait.
