    Make ship usable.

i've downloaded many ships for the green screen, but when i load up the movies, they are only for the set dressing, so my movies look kinda crappy with them flying and not landing/ moving at all... is there a way to fix this?

    Re: Make ship usable.

Yes, but you need to know how to use Blender to alter the mesh group names, use MEd to import and create .ini files and how the various prop groups work.

Alternatively, if you have S&E, you can use the Tarison sets and make creative use of the freecam mode.

is there a tutorial somewhere that could tell me how to alter it?

    Re: Make ship usable.

It's not quite as simple as that, I'm afraid Smily [:)]

It requires you to know enough about Blender to be familiar with how it works,  the concept of groups and mesh names, rotation, etc.  You also need to have access to MEd and/or the Mesh Manipulation utility to get any completed mods into the right formats for the game to find and use them; not something for someone who has had absolutely no modding experience previously to embark on lightly (not sure if you have previously done any modding, but am guessing not).

Modding questions are best asked at Director's Cut Modding Foundry (google the name, you'll find it!), where the mod team tend to hang out.  A word of advice, though; don't bug the team on their forums for questions about Blender operations, as general queries about how Blender works are frowned upon.

There are a bunch of tutorials there that explain some of the more complicated procedures, but you really need to have a basic understanding of how Blender works and operates first before you try to modify any current meshes or models.  You'll also need the import/export scripts to get models in and out to actually do anything with them.

    Re: Make ship usable.

    Luthaar,
You can et the effect you want with some simple freecam work.
Load up any green or bluescreen that has the right time duration.
Position your ship for the first key frame.
Position your ship for the final key frame.
    Play it back
You can edit the keyframe sliders [1,2] to change the timing of the animation.
If you animation requires more keyframes [ e.g. going around an object etc] then make a  copy the first scene, then make your second key frame now the first key frame and then repoistion for a new final keyframe.
Once you position your animations over a backdrop the effect should look quite natural.

    Hope this helps,

    Re: Make ship usable.

I used a modified version of tarison's 11er bluescreen set to achieve these results. Is this the sort of thing you are after?

Greenscreening and chroma-keying is the key.

? Does that mean that if I position any object at different locations at start and end of the scene the object will move according to the duration of the scene? I didn´t think of that although it seems logical. [For advanced animation software, but impossible with the movies, I guess.]

Another question: It is not possible to tilt objects, right? They can just move horizontally and vertically (be rotated on the horizontal axis), which is really a shame, because guns look so stupid upright on a table... (and a ship or plane doing a nice swerve...)

There´s nothing in the manual and I tried a few key combinations. But that won´t work?

    Re: Make ship usable.

If you position your prop in the right place on the set, use the Freecam to set a start point, move the camera to the end point of the track and set that, you can obtain the illusion of movement without having to go to all the trouble of fiddling with models and ini files; it can take some trial and error to get a G o o d [Good] result, but it's easily doable if you play with it a bit.

    Re: Make ship usable.

First off what is being suggested requires Stunts and |Effects expansion pack. If you don't have you should try to get it. If you do- it's not the object that you move at the beginning and ending of each scene- but the camera. The freecam can be used positioned in many ways to give the final effect of almost aby kind of movement in 3d space.
Let me know and I'll post an example.

    Re: Make ship usable.

Hre's a simple example showing a ship maneuvering using just freecam in bluescreen and overlaying with external editor. You can use Windows moviemaker with a free bluescreen plugin:

    Re: Make ship usable.

nice and simple. If you use stuff like magix or after effects, you can do much more complez stuff.
