    NOOO!! RRoD

So today I turned on my Xbox 360 which I haven't used in two weeks and was greeted with a system update at the dashboard. The update downloaded, and then my xbox shut off. When I turned it back on, I was greeted with the three red rings. I turned my xbox off then back on again. Three red rings. I plugged unplugged every outlet/cable/wireless adapter and turned it on. Thee red rings.

So realizing my Xbox was dead I went on the Xbox support website and went through the repair a console steps, but I have a few questions.

Have you ever experienced a red ring right after the system update?

How long does it take for the box to come and for Microsoft to fix the Xbox?

What do I put in the box after it comes (such as do I put the power block in, cables, etc.)

Thank you for your help and please don't make comments bashing the Xbox I just want to get my answers.

it depends how long probably 2-3 weeks or even 1 and a half week                               When the box comes you take off every accessory and hardrive and put in only the xbox

Swordbane I think I can help in that department. My xbox is being shipped for repairs as soon as UPS opens in the morning.

The guy at support told me to remove the hard drive, the cables, any games in the disk tray , and the face plate.  It needs to be packed, in a well cushioned box, and mailed by whomever your shipping lable says to use.  Here in the US it is UPS.  The box should include  the shipping lable, the return address and the Reference number.

I noticed my lable that finaly came in the mail yesterday, had all of the aformentioned stuff on it.

    Hope this helps.

If you have a UPS store near you they will be able to box it up for you.

Thanks everyone, my box will be ready to ship tomorrow morning from my local UPS store. The only thing I didn't do before packing it was take off the generic white faceplate, the e-mail i received from support said to only take of the faceplate if it was custom. It's too late now, my Xbox is stuffed in a box full of packing peanuts and wrapped around with that tape with string in it that doesn't rip.

Sword, wondered how your xbox was.  Mine is fixed and in the process of being shipped.  Hope to have it home by the weekend.

Sorry to say, but it's probably just a refurbished xbox. That's what I got.

Mine's in the same stage as yours, just finished being fixed yesterday and arrived at the first stop (Memphis, about halfway between where I live and Texas) from the repair place in Texas around 5:00 today, meaning I'll probably get it tomorrow. A week and two days? I'd say that's a record, most people I know don't get their back for at least two weeks and sometimes four.

I got mine at about the same time frame. It's pretty shocking.

Glad to hear that, we'll be back online playing before we know it.  I just got a new game to add to the  collection.  Can't wait to play it. It's Bass Pros the Stike with the fishing rod.  Looks like a cool game if you like to fish. Which I do.

And here I was thinking that I would barely get it back before Modern Warfare 2 comes out.

Wait, that game has a fishing rod controller? That sounds pretty sweet.

    Re: NOOO!! RRoD

It is gives the game a whole new dimension. The cool thing with the fishing rod controller is you forget you are in your living room.  My hubby has been playing it on his xbox, and I may never get it back again.  But I can always go get another game bundle.

    Swordbane,

How is your xbox?  They sent me a brand new replacement.  Guess they pronounced death and couldn't fix mine.  Just got done redownloading all my stuff.

Oops, sorry for the double post.

They always send you a different xbox, but I think it is just someone else's refurbished.

That is not always true.  I have a coworker that has gotten the RROD and they just repair his and send him the same box back.  If they had sent me a refrubished it would have said in the packing that it was a refurb.  The packing said replacement, and the xbox was in mint condition.  After reading your post thought I would check the date of manufacture.  This box was made this year.

I don't think they send new xboxes out to the disgruntled populace at large.  My replacement had no mention of refurbishment, but it had some scratches and tape residue marks.  I know that it was a different xbox because I had to transfer the licenses to it by redownloading and I also had to reinstall each disc to hd (it pairs with the xbox when you install to hdd.

EDIT: also, with a 60-70% rate of failure (for the aggregate of xboxes), I would not doubt brand new xboxes having to be refurbished
